Eaton’s New Dual-Trigger Pyro Fuse Adds an Extra Layer of Protection and Safety for EV Circuitry

Power management company Eaton has announced the launch of a new line of advanced Pyro Fuse products, further expanding its circuit protection portfolio. Among them, the dual-trigger series stands out for significantly enhancing the safety and reliability of electric vehicles (EVs).

Unlike conventional fuses that rely on melting to break the circuit, Pyro Fuses use an ignitor and propulsion system to rapidly sever the busbar, similar in principle to an automotive airbag. Eaton’s dual-trigger Pyro Fuse adds a backup internal trigger that can automatically disconnect the circuit, even without an external signal. This feature mirrors the passive safety behavior of traditional thermal fuses, creating an extra fail-safe for EV protection.

Eaton’s latest protection lineup includes not only Pyro Fuses but also Breaktor® circuit protection technology and Bussmann® series EV fuses, offering comprehensive solutions for OEMs. Breaktor is known for its ultra-fast response, capable of interrupting faults up to 900V and 25,000A within 4 milliseconds. It combines the resettable functionality of a breaker with fuse-level protection, reducing downtime and production costs.

Bussmann EV fuses offer ratings up to 1400A and 1000V, with customization available for OEM-specific requirements. Leveraging deep expertise in thermal and circuit protection, Eaton tailors scalable designs to meet evolving needs.
