Google Moves Mobile Chip Production from Samsung to TSMC

According to a report by the U.S. tech media outlet Android Authority, Google has shifted its mobile chip manufacturing strategy, moving from Samsung to embrace Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 2330). Google's upcoming Tensor G5 chip for the Pixel 10 series is expected to be produced by TSMC next year.

This report follows previous disclosures last September that Google's mobile chip production would move from Samsung to TSMC, a shift that has continued to be tracked and verified by international media.

Although Google's phone sales are not substantial, industry insiders suggest that Google's strategic pivot symbolizes TSMC's superior technology, which has led Google to switch to TSMC. The future collaboration between the two is expected to become even closer.

Google’s self-developed Tensor processors, from the first generation launched in 2021, have been closely developed in collaboration with Samsung’s chip division, including the Tensor G4 that powers the Pixel 9.

While the Tensor processors generally perform well, their thermal management and efficiency have been impacted, as Samsung’s foundry services have recently been unable to match TSMC.

It has been widely rumored in the market that the Tensor G5 will be manufactured by TSMC, marking the first Google mobile chip not produced by Samsung.

Android Authority, based on publicly available trade data, has confirmed the authenticity of these rumors.
