Munich, August 16, 2001 - Infineon Technologies today introduced the TAIFUN TUA6034, the industrys first single chip triple-band tuner integrated circuit (IC) solution for all global broadcast standards including analog and digital terrestrial, digital cable, and analog television. The highly integrated solution reduces the number of ICs used in tuner systems and simplifies the design of
RF (radio frequency) frontend systems. TAIFUN TUA6034 further expands Infineon`s leading multimedia portfolio targeted for set-top-boxes, integrated digital TVs, PC card receivers, cable modems and cable tuners.
The single-chip TAIFUN TUA6034, or single conversion concept, provides many advantages compared to currently available two-chip solutions, or Up-Down Conversion (UDC) concept. Benefits of the single conversion concept include low cost Bill Of Material (BOM), lower power consumption (< 0,5 W), and suitability for analog- and digital-based solutions, as well as terrestrial- and cable-based solutions.
This solution meets receiver manufacturers requirements for leading-edge chips with technically proven interfaces and the lowest bill of material, said Thomas Pollakowski, Vice President and General Manager Discretes from Infineon Technologies. With the new TAIFUN TUA6034 chip Infineon introduces a complete DVB-T frontend solution comprising the TUA6034, the TDA6190 mixer IC, and the SQC6100
demodulator IC.
The TAIFUN TUA6034 comes in two packages, P-TSSOP38 and the smaller P-VQFN-40 for portable, space-limited, mobile receiver applications. The high performance and phase noise of the TUA6034 significantly improves the overall system noise and leads to excellent Bit Error Rate (BER) performance to meet a user clear DTT reception. The TUA6034 can be used for all applications, such as DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting -Terrrestrial), ISDB-T (Integrated Services Video Broadcasting Japan), ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee), DVB-C (Digital Video Broadcasting Cable), DOCISIS (Data-Over-Cable Service Interface Specification) as well as analog PAL&NTSC (Phase Alternating Line & National TV-Standards Committee). The TUA6034 also simplifies equipment manufacturing process in that a single solution may be purchased and easily modified to comply with product demand independent of standards.
Price and Availability
First silicon of the TAIFUN TUA6034 in the TSSOP-38 package is now available and engineering samples for the P-TSSOP38 will be available by September 2001. Volume production for the P-TSSOP38 is planned for Q1/2002 and evaluation boards with an Infineon reference tuner design will be available in September and October, respectively, of this year. The TUA6030 in the P-VQFN-40 package will be available next year. Pricing for both the P-TSSOP38 and the P-VQFN-40 is below Euro 1.5 (US$ 1.35) per unit for high volume production.
