Infineon To Provide Industry's First Complete 40G Line Card Solution

Atlanta, June 4, 2002 – Infineon Technologies AG (FSE/NYSE: IFX), a leading provider of integrated circuits for advanced communications systems, today introduced the industry’s first complete OC-768 line card solution. Infineon’s OC-768 solution consists of a Multi Chip Package (MCP) Mux/Demux and a two-chip framer/pointer processor. The new improved line card solution eliminates interoperability hurdles, paving the way to the accelerated deployment of 40 Gbps technology throughout the metro and long-haul environments.

Infineon will demonstrate its complete 40G line card solution at Supercomm 2002, June 4 - 6 in Atlanta, Ga., booth #23726.

The highly integrated OC-768 line card solution consists of an MCP Mux/Demux and an OC-768 framer/pointer processor. The latter consists of an OC-768-to-OC-192 interface converter, the Titan™ 768MD, and the Titan 19244, a 40G Quad STS-192 Framer and Pointer Processor.

About the Titan Family


Infineon’s Titan 19244 is a highly integrated single chip quad-port STS-192 SONET-/SDH framer and pointer processor device. It supports pointer processing at STS-1 granularity for all four ports, an industry first. Furthermore, this feature also scales to STS-768 for 40Gbps applications. Titan 19244 supports both standard and non-standard concatenation levels such as STS-3c, STS-6c, STS-9c. The chip also supports termination and generation of TOH bytes such as DCC and EDCC bytes for digital communications between network nodes. Both the line and system side interfaces are compliant with the OIF SFI-4 standard.

Infineon's Titan 768MD Interface Converter is a 16:64 multiplex/demultiplex integrated circuit (IC). Its line side interface complies with the SFI-5 specification, supporting 16 channels operating at between 2.5 Gbps and 3.125 Gbps, and its system-side interface complies with the SFI-4 specification, supporting 64 622-MHz channels.

The 40G Mux/Demux MCP


The multiplexer features Clock Management Unit functionality as well as a selectable 20 GHz and 40 GHz clock output to support both No Return to Zero and Return to Zero line coding, respectively. The demultiplexer integrates Clock and Data Recovery functionality with extremely high input sensitivity of 50mV. Both chips operate at a single 5.5V supply voltage.

Focused on facilitating customers’ high-speed board design Infineon has developed a multi-chip-package solution (MCP). By offering a plug-in solution with easy-to-handle standardized interfaces the MCP simplifies the design cycle of line cards and shortens time to market.
