According to WccfTech, a technology website, NVIDIA is launching a new display card GeForce RTX 4090 D customized for the mainland market in response to the new restrictions imposed by the United States on semiconductor exports to Chinese Mainland, to solve the problem that the original high-end game display card RTX 4090 cannot be sold in mainland China.
The D of RTX 4090 D may represent Dragon similar to AMD RX 470 D, as next year is the Year of the Dragon or implies that it will be launched next year.
According to reports, the new display card customized for mainland China is bound to have lower performance (gaming performance, AI functions, etc.) than the RTX 4090. Therefore, the display card may have lower overall processing efficiency (TPP), lower cooling design power consumption (TDP), and fewer SM units, which distinguishes it from the RTX 4090 and complies with the new restrictions in the United States.
In terms of supply, Nvidia will not release this product to the public. The RTX 4090 D will be provided by Nvidia's authorized manufacturer in mainland China, in the same way as the RTX 4090. The outer packaging will be clearly labeled with a new "D" label, and the price is said to be the same as the suggested retail price of RTX 4090 in mainland China, which is RMB 12999 (approximately NT $57000).
Due to the unfortunate sacrifice of the RTX 4090 under the recent US government ban, but with a large consumer market in mainland China, it seems wise for Nvidia to spend time and effort creating alternative products at the same price as the RTX 4090 to regain the high-end gaming GPU market.
