Renesas Launches New RA4L1 Microcontroller Product Line

On February 19, Renesas announced the launch of its RA4L1 microcontroller (MCU) product line, featuring 14 new models that combine ultra-low power consumption, advanced security features, and support for segmented LCDs. Powered by an 80MHz Arm Cortex-M33 processor with TrustZone support, the new MCUs offer industry-leading performance, functionality, and energy efficiency—providing designers with superior solutions for applications such as water meters, smart locks, and IoT sensors.

The RA4L1 microcontrollers leverage Renesas' proprietary low-power technology, consuming just 168µA/MHz in 80MHz mode. In standby mode, with all SRAM retained, the current drops to as low as 1.70µA. The product line also includes ultra-compact packaging options, such as a 3.64 x 4.28 mm wafer-level chip-scale package (WLCSP), making it ideal for space-constrained devices like portable printers, digital cameras, and smart tags.

The RA4L1 MCUs are now available along with the Flexible Software Package (FSP). Renesas also offers the RA4L1 Evaluation Board and the RA4L1 Capacitive Touch Evaluation System to support developers.
