Munich, Germany/Lustenau, Austria March 7, 2002 Infineon Technologies AG (FSE/NYSE: IFX), a leading provider of wireless systems and NewLogic Technologies AG, a leading provider of communications intellectual property, today announced the signing of an agreement for a multi-technology portfolio cross-licensing and royalty agreement encompassing Infineons and NewLogic's Wireless LAN (WLAN) Intellectual Property (IP).
WLAN, a standard for wireless access of the Internet and corporate networks, is quickly gaining acceptance by home PC and laptop users. In 2001 approximately 8 million PC/laptop units were equipped with WLAN technology. Dataquest is forecasting, that in 2005 50 million users will use WLAN technology. The cross-licensing agreement speeds up Infineons WLAN product development and it complements NewLogics IP portfolio. Driving forward the Wireless LAN market, it helps both companies to meet time to market requirements and the performance and pricing needs worldwide.
Under the terms of the agreement, Infineon will incorporate NewLogics wireless LAN IP, including IEEE 802.11a and 802.11b cores and software, into products targeting various application sectors in the wireless space. Furthermore Infineons advanced IEEE 802.11a signal processing technology becomes part of NewLogics Wireless LAN IP product line.
