Apple has significantly expanded its production scale in India, and recently the country has started producing the iPhone 15 series almost simultaneously with China. A new report states that both sides have now held further discussions on future expansion.
According to Business Today in India, Apple executives and the Indian Ministry of Finance recently held a detailed meeting.
This meeting mainly discussed the future of smartphone manufacturing in India. The report states that it involves discussing how to adjust Indian policies to support the initiative.
There are currently no further details, but the discussion took place after Apple CEO Cook met with Indian Prime Minister Modi in April this year. India has recently taken more controversial measures, suddenly requiring companies to obtain import licenses for PCs, tablets, and other devices.
Apple and its suppliers have been shifting to India to reduce their dependence on China as a single source of iPhone production. By April 2023, Apple has transferred 7% of iPhone production to India, with the Indian Trade Minister stating a goal of reaching 25%.
